Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), a time to increase public understanding of sexual violence and educate communities on prevention. In 2025, we continue this mission with the theme "Together We Act, United We Change." This theme highlights the power of working together to prevent sexual abuse, assault, and harassment.
Sexual violence impacts everyone. Anyone can be a victim of sexual violence, and people who commit sexual abuse, assault, and harassment exist in all of our communities. This underscores why it's important for all of us to care about sexual violence and take steps to promote the safety and well-being of others.
Key Dates
• April 1: Wear Teal Day/ SAAM Day of Action
Show your support for survivors of sexual harassment and abuse by wearing teal — the color of sexual violence prevention. You can post your photo with a comment to your social media any day this month!
• April 23: SAAM Day of Giving
Help us mark the SAAM Day of Giving by donating to CCS. A gift to CCS enables us to support survivors, share our resources, and engage the public in preventing sexual assault.
• April 30: Denim Day (click here to learn more about the history of Denim Day)
Denim Day takes place on the last Wednesday in April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. It is a day when we stand in solidarity with sexual assault survivors and victims, fostering dialogue and unity against the silence surrounding sexual assault. Wear denim and post a message of support to your social media!
SAAM Statistics
• Over 53% of women and over 29% of men reported experiencing sexual violence.
• Every 68 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted.
• 1 in 9 girls and 1 in 20 boys under the age of 18 experience sexual abuse or assault.
• Only 310 out of every 1,000 sexual assaults are reported to police. That means more than 2 out of 3 go unreported.

The staff and volunteers at Center for Community Solutions are working around-the-clock to support survivors of sexual and relationship violence when they need it most. As a proud (supporter/staff/volunteer) of CCS, I have seen first-hand how their services save lives. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM), and in recognition of this nationwide effort to end sexual violence and assault, I am asking you to please donate to Center for Community Solutions. Every dollar will help provide critical support to local survivors in need.
