Biography

Suzie Miako Colby

Suzie Miako Colby has more than 15 years of experience in nonprofit resource development, communications, marketing, and public relations.

Suzie most recently served as Vice President of Resource Development at Social Advocates for Youth (SAY) San Diego for six years, where she led an agency-wide initiative to broaden resources and increase communications and connections with stakeholders. She created a development department designed to diversify funding streams, build messaging, increase agency recognition, and inspire a culture of philanthropy across all departments.

Suzie worked previously for eight years as the Director of PR and Development at Community Resource Center in Encinitas, where she helped to double revenue by increasing both private foundation and individual giving.  Suzie’s leadership was instrumental in expanding donor support of domestic violence shelter and prevention services.

Suzie has spent most of her life in San Diego and has a lifetime of experience with many of the populations CCS serves and is personally invested in its mission. She is committed to addressing the underlying oppression that allows violence to exist and supports whole-community solutions to violence, prevention education, and inequities that create poverty. She has a certificate in nonprofit fundraising management, a B.A. in Communications and an M.A. in English.
