Center for Community Solutions Receives $50,000 in Funding for Teen Relationship Violence Prevention Program

Grant from Raliance, New Collaborative Initiative to End Sexual Violence in One Generation

San Diego, CA – Center for Community Solutions (CCS) has been selected to receive grant funding of $50,000 from Raliance, a newly launched, collaborative initiative dedicated to ending sexual violence in one generation. The grant will go toward provision of Teen Relationship Violence Prevention Education to youth in San Diego County’s juvenile detention and juvenile rehabilitation facilities. Center for Community Solutions was chosen to receive this funding among a competitive pool of over 250 applications.

“CCS is honored to receive this funding, and to partner with Raliance in our shared vision to end sexual violence in one generation,” said Verna Griffin-Tabor, CEO. “This funding will allow us to continue our important work of preventing relationship violence through outreach and education to youth. Violence is a learned behavior and through prevention education, we can promote healthy and safe communities in San Diego County.”

A goal of CCS’ Teen Relationship Violence Prevention Education Program is to decrease relationship violence for youth in the county’s juvenile detention and rehabilitation facilities through a series of educational presentations. The presentation curriculum is based on social learning theory and cognitive behavioral principles that have been found to reduce recidivism rates among juvenile offenders. CCS has been working with San Diego County’s Probation Department for ten years, and this funding will expand the program to other facilities in the region.

Raliance was recently founded by three leading sexual violence prevention organizations – the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC), the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault (CALCASA)-PreventConnect, and the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence (NAESV). Raliance will serve as the central hub for effective allocation and distribution of programmatic funding for sexual violence response and prevention efforts and as the go-to resource on sexual violence for policymakers, advocates, service providers, and the media.

As its first initiative, Raliance has funded 27 projects – including Center for Community Solutions – totaling nearly $1.2 million. The ongoing grant program seeks to advance promising, replicable practices or policies that 1) improve the response to victims of sexual violence; 2) reduce the likelihood of perpetration of sexual violence; or 3) strengthen communities’ and organizations’ capacity to create safe environments. This initiative is made possible through a multi-year, $10 million commitment from the National Football League (NFL).
