CCS Awarded Verizon Wireless Grants To Reinforce Domestic Violence Technology and Legal Assistance Project

CCS has been awarded two Verizon grants to fuel technology innovation and civil legal assistance for victims and their children in the amount of $173,000.

CCS’s Domestic Violence Technology and Legal Assistance Project (DVTLAP) is made possible by a $149,000 grant from Verizon Wireless through the Verizon Foundation. A $24,000 grant from the Verizon Wireless West Area Hopeline ® Grant Program is earmarked specifically for legal services in North San Diego County . The Verizon grants are instrumental in helping CCS obtain critically needed software and hardware for increasing its capacity to offer vital civil legal assistance to victims of domestic violence and their children.

With the additional funding, CCS’s legal department will be able to sustain and enhance delivery of confidential, victim-centered assistance with restraining orders and other family law matters, including general legal consultations, California Safe at Home confidential address program applications, crime victim fund applications as well as court accompaniment with CCS Domestic Violence Response Team advocates. “The legal staff at CCS is truly grateful to Verizon Wireless for their continued, generous support of DVTLAP,” said Steve Allen, director of legal services at Center for Community Solutions. “They have long recognized that domestic violence is the silent epidemic affecting all educational and socio-economic levels of our society. We applaud their tireless commitment and steadfast focus on leveraging both corporate resources and technology leadership to increase the availability of services for victims and their children.”

In addition to the funds allocated for expanding CCS’ civil legal assistance capabilities, the Verizon grants have enabled the agency to implement state-of-the-art software for capturing all client services information in one centralized web-based system. As a result, CCS’s legal department staff now can easily monitor their clients’ progress in meeting individual goals for safety and justice along with psychological and emotional healing from violence.

“It's been a pleasure to work with Center for Community Solutions for so many years to help reduce domestic violence in our community,” said Ken Muche, Verizon Wireless spokesperson for Southern California . “Our recent grants to CCS are a reflection of our belief that the agency is not only doing work that deserves to be supported, but also that CCS has been innovative in developing new and better ways to serve victims of abuse. As a technology company, we're particularly proud to support like-minded organizations that value the importance of innovation in their work.”
