Center for Community Solutions Holds a Record-Breaking Fundraising Event

for Sexual Assault Awareness Month

SAN DIEGO (April 11, 2017) – Center for Community Solutions (CCS), recently held its 18th Annual Tea and Tonic event at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines.  The organization which provides programs and services for the intervention, healing, advocacy, and prevention of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking reported that preliminary event proceeds at over $250,000.

WomenWealthyWise was the Premier Sponsor for the event.  Contributing Sponsors included The Patricia & Christopher Weil Family Foundation, Wells Fargo, Laurel Barry and Dave Pursiano, Dr. Therese Collins & Byron Georgiu, The Frame Maker, and The Pride Law Firm.

Each year the event is held in April as the nation recognizes Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This year’s event was a sold-out crowd of more than 550 guests comprised of local businesses, community leaders and philanthropists. Steve Atkinson, news anchor for ABC Channel 10 News served as the event’s master of ceremony.

The event recognizes Community Hero Honorees which this year included the Courage Award presented to Amanda Wirtz, who stirred the audience with her moving story of experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault, how she has healed from the wounds of her past, and also overcoming  insurmountable challenges with a rare disease. Ms. Wirtz received a standing ovation after her inspiring speech, and also captivated the audience with a personal rendition of her electric violin at the end of her presentation.

CCS also recognized the following Community Hero Awardees: The Patricia and Christopher Weil Family Foundation as Philanthropists of the Year, and The Country Friends as Community Partner of the Year for their thirty-plus years of supporting CCS.

The main highlight of the event was the celebrity guest speaker, action-movie hero, sitcom star, Old Spice pitchman, former NFL player, and syndicated game show host, Terry Crews.  Crews shared his personal story and talked about the importance of de-programming certain male norms and attitudes to help men have a more pro-active role in starting the conversation on how to end and prevent relationship and sexual violence.

Proceeds from the “Tea & Tonic” benefit CCS’ full range of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking intervention and prevention programs, including emergency response teams, a 24-hour hotline, short term and long term emergency shelters, victim advocacy, case management, court accompaniment, counseling,  legal services and prevention education.
